Transitions are hard for anybody, no matter what age...they are hard for me sometimes! When I taught Pre-K, I included the transitions in my daily plans...that's how important it was for me! If I didn't include them, I'd go nuts trying to think of something quick, which would lead to a disaster trying to get 18 kids from the carpet area to the cafeteria. So, for me, I had to write down or have a "bag of tricks" close by to keep me focused.

I've tried to remember that at home as well...although I forget most of the time. So, for Stella's transition from her baby room to her big girl bed I decided to make a simple book. I pumped it up like it was an original Eric Carle book, and made her think it was the best thing ever. :) We read it every night, even at nap time...several times on most days. Among a few other things we kept consistent, this was one I believe helped her in a big way.

What do you do for transitions?
