I was reading up on 3 year old skills and came across an article about fine motor development (the small muscles used in the hands for writing, drawing, etc.) I've always known that cutting strengthens the fine motor muscles, but never realized that the type of paper being cut helps out with the process. To start out, begin cutting on light cardboard, then move to construction paper, then to regular paper. So...after cleaning out the freezer, I had a leftover box and saved it for some cutting time after nap.
I know, this was random, but I thought it was a great, simple way to get some fine motor practice with some materials already in the house :)
