candy hearts

Simple color sort with candy hearts...and yes, the best part was getting to eat them :)
make it hard:  sort by the number of words, sort by phrase
Happy Valentines Day :)

memory

This was the first time we played memory.  This game is so versatile...you can use numbers, colors, pictures, and the list goes on.  We matched words.  No, Stella can't read, but letter recognition and tracking words are all small steps in the process.  So....we talked about the letter sounds (although the /c/ sound is tough).  She turned over the word "cute" several times and said, "oh, sweet..this says sweet, and that says sweet!"  :)

a few hearts, a few different ways

I made this matching game a few years ago in the classroom...very simple.  One to one correspondence, matching, counting, numeral recognition are a few skills with this activity.
It seemed a little easy, so I made two extra hearts with a plus and equals sign...simple addition..ta-da :)

make it easy: count and match the number to the dots, show me the three, count out 3 hearts
make it hard:  use larger numbers when adding, instead of horizontal addition, change it up to where the problem is vertical.  Change out the plus sign for a minus, etc.
Happy counting :)

simple but sweet

This was supposed to be a Q-tip painting, but Stella liked making circles until she covered the inside of the heart.  We sprinkled it with glitter to make it sparkle.

getting ready for love

This time of year is really fun.  I always enjoyed seeing all the cute boxes decorated in the classrooms just waiting for all the love notes to come it's way : )  I decided to make one for our family...and yes, I know it looks like Stella cut the letters out, but I kinda liked it not so "perfect".  I have a little bowl full of hearts and a pen, that Michael and I've been writing on at least once a day, leading up to Valentine's day.  We'll all sit down and open the hearts and read sweet words about each other...I love it that Stella can participate with her "writing" and drop it in the box, as well.
What will your family do to celebrate?
